Opinno Biotech Competition
The Opinno Biotech Competition is a pioneering contest in Spain whose objective is to find the best work of young entrepreneurs in the biotechnology sector, foment the creation of new businesses and spark the investment process so that they become successful enterprises.
The competition’s goal is to form the next generation of biotechnology entrepreneurs, providing resources to commercialize their projects and recognize those that develop new technologies or new applications of technologies that already exist which represent an advance in biotechnology.
The projects or investigations revolve around whichever of the four sectors of biotechnology: industrial, health, agriculture and marine.
Opinno Biotech Competition is directed towards professionals that want to compliment their scientific expertise with abilities, knowledge and resources that facilitate the establishment and consolidation of a business. Entrepreneurs with a business idea in the biotechnology field or already-established businesses that are in an early phase of a new activity (up to five years) can participate.
The contest is an exceptional opportunity to be placed in contact with an international network of business experts, scientists, well-known business people in the biotechnology field and qualified investors.
How it works
From all the businesses that enter, five finalists are selected. These five present their projects via an elevator pitch in front of a panel of prestigious investors and important business people in the sector. The judges evaluate the viability of the business ideas, offer valuable feedback and opportunities for high-level networking.
The first Opinno Biotech Competition was held in 2011 through a sponsoship with Fundación Genoma España and Observatorio Zeltia as a part of EmTech Spain on October 26th and 27th in Malaga. Integrated Microsystems for Quality of Life (iMicroQ) was the winner. iMicroQ is a technology company formed in 2010 that distributes and develops technology for food security and clinical diagnosis.
Opinno is preparing the second Opinno Biotech Comptetion which will be held in Q2 2012.
