Strawberry Jam Makes Information Overload Toast
These days with all the social media outlets, it is nearly impossible to pick the interesting information out from all the clutter. Although Facebook recently began to consolidate recurring posts among friends and Twitter through its ‘Trends feature,’ there is still too much information to know what is important. Why not let a computer crunch the numbers and package it up nicely for you?
Strawberry Jam does just that. Strawberry Jam is a Hettema & Bergsten backed start-up that filters and categorizes the most frequently shared data among the people you follow on Twitter. The most popular articles shared are organized and displayed in an easy-to-scan manner. With Strawberry Jam, it is also possible to personalize how the filtering is done through search lists or Twitter lists.
The posts are organized in order of the most popular post and the link is displayed above those who shared it. The Twitter images show who posted the link, which can assist in discerning its value, and it also allows you to select who to retweet the post.
Recently Strawberry Jam collaborated with Buffer, another Twitter application that allows users to store up and schedule tweets to avoid bombarding their followers. Now Strawberry Jam lets you add tweets directly to your Buffer.
Strawberry Jam has also incorporated a Read Now or Read Later feature. With the Read Later function users can store articles they want to read, but do not have time to read now. The Read Now option allows the users to choose to read the article from its original web site or to read it on Strawberry Jam without the advertisements. These functions are taking on the role of a feed reader or a news aggregator.
The Strawberry Jam application is in beta and is currently invite only. The information about the application on the web site is slim, but users are raving about the application and the blog is updated regularly with new features.
Currently the application is only filtering Twitter streams, but they are working to incorporate other social media sites. If done successfully, the buzz about Strawberry Jam will surely continue to grow.
