TR35 Spain Goes to Boston– Immersion Program in Entrepreneurship and Innovation
Last week, a group of bright and talented entrepreneurs had the opportunity to visit the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and its Emerging Technologies Conference (EmTech). The group was composed of Spain’s TR35 winners, a list of notable Spanish innovators which were selected by MIT’s Technology Review, an independent media company owned by MIT. Technology Review identifies business leaders and emerging technologists by analyzing their impact on science and the industry.
Organized by Opinno and sponsored by Fundación Rafel del Pino, the group had a week-long schedule of different activities, offering them great opportunities for networking and business insights.
The visit started on Monday, October 17th, when the group arrived early in the afternoon to Boston and, after getting set, had networking events scheduled for the night. The following two days’ agenda were filled by the EmTech @ MIT at the MIT Campus. The activities were divided in two stages, one with Innovation-related speakers and the other tech-related.
Thursday held the beginning of an intense schedule for the TR35 Spain group. It started with a presentation by the MIT Enterprise Forum, which builds connections between technology entrepreneurs and the communities in which they reside and also produces a series of educational programs about entrepreneurship.
The day also presented the opportunity to visit Microsoft NERD (New England Research and Development) Center, focused on software innovation and the MIT Entrepreneurship Center, which provides the resources and guidance to enable entrepreneurs to design and launch successful new ventures in innovative technologies. Finally, the day ended with a tour at the MIT Campus, one of the most respected universities of the world.
Friday was also a busy day. It started with visiting the Cambridge Innovation Center, the area’s largest and most popular flexible office space facility for small and growing companies followed by a visit to the MassChallenge and the Deshpande Center, a MIT School of Engineering venture to increase the impact of its technologies in the marketplace. The group had the opportunity to visit Romulus Capital which is a seed-stage venture capital fund founded to help talented students of the area.
At the end of another busy day, the group had dinner with the MIT Global Startup Workshop (GSW), the world’s premier workshop dedicated to fostering entrepreneurship and building entrepreneurial ecosystems globally. To top it all off, the group attended a concert by the MIT Symphony Orchestra, celebrating the success of the venture.
All in all, the week was intense for the bright Spanish entrepreneurs, who had a week-long experience which provided useful and productive insights for each project and venture, great networking opportunities with US partners and privileged access to the scientific and tech community of MIT and Harvard.
