Madrid, 21 May, 2020 – The global innovation firm Opinno presented its Future Foresight methodology that allows companies to identify possible future scenarios that will affect their business and to prepare for them. According to Opinno, the Covid-19 pandemic has accelerated a digitalization and telework situation that would have otherwise taken months or years to arrive. In parallel, users have become much more dependent on digital channels. Both of these are situations to which companies must effectively provide responses.

Leadership: Thinking of the future to understand the present 

Faced with the Covid-19 crisis, traditional strategic methodologies cannot anticipate uncertainty scenarios, which is why the majority of companies are suffering from a very significant impact to their business. Opinno’s new report, Future Foresight, enables identification of possible future events that would affect an organization, to develop possible future scenarios and work more effectively in the construction of the business. 

Therefore, the leadership and commitment of the organization must be based on curiosity for knowledge to develop a wide vision that enables knowing trends and potential scenarios. Furthermore, leadership must be capable of acting boldly and decisively, as well as promoting collaborative team dynamics, internally and externally, to together build an adaptation to the future. 

Adaptations: The essence of survival 

The methodology of future scenarios does not seek solutions, it seeks adaptations. It intends to detect the elements which will be essential for a future business, empowering organizational flexibility to face new realities and new scenarios which, bit by bit, are taking shape each day. The five key steps for this are the following: 

  1. Identify relevant areas and trends. To find the principal areas of a business and the current trends that are defining the future, understand what could be the impact of these on each area of a company’s activity. 

  1. Surround yourself with experts. To be able to identify the most realistic scenarios, it is necessary to understand the origin and motivation of the different trends, which will then enable recognition when they intensify or diminish. 

  1. Define future scenarios. Combine different trends with the support and knowledge of experts.  

  1. Determine challenges. Companies must select the challenges they want to take on in the identified scenarios. This step is key in order to have a clear direction.  

  1. Create an action plan. This calls for a complete yet progressive evolution, which will lead companies to position themselves based on their ultimate goals. The most complete and effective action plans include incremental, transformational, and disruptive innovation projects, which in turn enable a progressive evolution of the business and the company.
